Author biographies
Ronnie Levine graduated from Leeds in 1968, before moving to Birmingham to take a PhD in Oral Pathology. He then moved to Manchester as a Senior Research Fellow, finally severing his link in 1990. Apart from 30 years of part-time dental practice his current appointments are the very diverse ones of Senior Tutor in Oral Surgery and Senior Research Fellow in Paediatrics, both at Leeds University. His many research interests range from neo-natal pathology and childhood obesity to dental caries and fluoride. In dentistry he is best known for his stewardship, with Cathy Stillman-Lowe of the Scientific Basis of Oral Health Education and for his report for the DH into the competence of new graduates, leading to the introduction of mandatory VT
Cathy Stillman-Lowe graduated from Cambridge University in 1983 with an honours degree in English. She joined the Health Education Council in 1985, and continued her career in dental health education and oral health promotion at a national level for the next 16 years, working under the auspices of the Health Education Authority and Health Development Agency. Since 2002, she has worked as an independent oral health promotion adviser, and has been a member of the editorial board of Dental Health journal, and served a three year term of office as Patron of the National Oral Health Promotion Group. Alongside co-authoring The Scientific Basis of Oral Health Education, she contributes her professional skills on a voluntary basis to health charities such as Action for ME, the ME Association and the Depression Alliance.
