Step 1: Purchase the Good Practice Scheme self-assessment programme from the Good Practice Team (020 7563 4598) or download an application form.
Purchasing the programme registers your practice as participating in the Good Practice Scheme. We recommend you aim to spend approximately six months on the practice self-assessment to keep motivation and enthusiasm at a peak (although you do have two years from the date of purchase to apply for scheme membership).
Step 2: Hold a practice meeting to discuss the requirements of the scheme, identifying what is already in place and what needs to be done. Agree how to go forward.
Step 3: Work through the self-assessment programme with your team to ensure all requirements are being met.
Step 4: When the practice self-assessment is complete, print an application form from the Good Practice CD and send it to the Good Practice Team at the BDA with the appropriate application fee:
where 50% or more of the dentists in the practice are BDA members, the application fee is £350
where less than 50% of dentists are BDA members, the application fee is £500.
Step 5: Within two weeks of receiving the application, the Good Practice team will contact the practice and request ten items from your practice self-assessment. The documentation must arrive at the BDA within seven days of the request.
Step 6: Documents are assessed against the scheme’s requirements within three weeks of receipt. If they meet the requirements, the practice is granted membership of the Good Practice Scheme.
Step 7: The Good Practice Scheme plaque is dispatched and should be received within two weeks. The practice also receives a publicity CD-Rom which contains the BDA Good Practice logo and guidelines on how to use it to publicise your achievements and market your practice.
Step 8: To quality assure the scheme, your practice may be randomly selected for an assessor's visit at any time during your membership.
