Recognising your commitment to quality

The BDA Good Practice Scheme is a quality assurance framework for UK dental practices. By becoming members of the Scheme, practices demonstrate a visible commitment to providing quality dental care to nationally recognised best practice standards.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has accepted that membership of the Scheme is a reliable indication that the practice is using a QA framework. Practices meeting the Scheme standard should be well positioned for meeting CQC compliance.

The Scheme can be used by all providers of outpatient dental care including general dental practices both private and NHS, specialists practices, salaried primary dental care services, armed forces clinics and outpatient departments.

Good Practice Scheme benefits:

  • Simple steps to delivering a quality service to patients

  • Provides recognition from your own professional association

  • Keeps your practice up-to-date

  • Improves patient communication

  • Develops a confident, professional and inspired team

  • Supports business development

  • Increases chances of successful tendering

See Good Practice Scheme benefits for further information.

How the Scheme works

To get started, practices need to purchase and subscribe to BDA Expert. Support material and advice sheets are provided with model policies and templates to assist practices working through the practice self assessment. On completion of the self-assessment practices are ready to apply for membership.

When an application has been assessed and the BDA confirms compliance with the Scheme standard, practices display the Good Practice Scheme plaque in their practice and can use the exclusive BDA Good Practice Scheme logo.

Support options

Practices are recommended to sign up to one of our two support options (Regional Consultancy or One Day Workshop). For practices that are unsure of where to begin, these are ideal. Both options provide useful information and advice on how to engage the whole dental team and work efficiently through the practice self-assessment.

Regional Consultancy – for the whole dental team

A dedicated consultant is assigned to the practice to assist the whole dental team in working through the Scheme requirements. This tailored service is delivered by practice managers who have taken their own practice through the Scheme, so practices are able to benefit from their personal experience, recommendations and advice.

One Day Workshop

Our informative workshops provide delegates with tools and tips on how best to work through the practice self-assessment. The day is presented by key representatives from the BDA and addresses aspects such as treatment decisions, health and safety and patient feedback.

See Good Practice Scheme support options for full details.
