The BDA's annual survey of Clinical Directors forms part of a wide range of research relating to Salaried Dentists. These surveys cover issues such as referral numbers, recruitment and retention, contract monitoring, and finance. The results inform the BDA's submission of evidence to the Doctors' and Dentists' Review Body.

The surveys have shown ongoing problems with increased referral numbers from General Practice since the introduction of the new GDS contract in 2006. The surveys have also shown recruitment problems including low numbers of applicants for all roles. For dentist posts specifically, many services have reported problems with ineligible applicants for dentist posts, as well as low quality of applicants generally.

The 2009 and 2010 surveys also covers the impact of the Transforming Community Services report on services, including details of the level and type of consultation that had occurred, and any decisions taken.

The reports are available to download below.
