Welcome

Many years ago, way before I became a part of the BDA, I attended my first ever British Dental Conference and Exhibition and remember expecting it to be impersonal and intimidating, but to my delight it wasn’t. Thankfully, that’s not a concern anymore. You’ll find that peers and colleagues use the event as a venue for reunions, whilst other small groups with common interests use it to meet and network after the educational sessions. It’s great to see how the event has grown and developed over the years, and how whether it’s your first or twentieth conference, you’ll be part of the family.

Of course, the main reason to attend this flagship event is to access inspirational leaders from both inside and outside the profession. Dr Phil Hammond will be opening this year’s conference. Phil Hammond is a GP, writer and award winning broadcaster and comedian, and will present an uplifting session which will serve as a very warm welcome to the event. What developments will have stemmed from the Steele Report, one year on? Jimmy Steele will be just one of a panel of speakers giving thought to how these changes will impact you. We will also bring you the best speakers, on the hottest topics, in all areas of clinical dentistry and plenty of updates from those leading the way for dental care professionals.

Now it’s time to talk about one of the other reasons for coming to the event – having fun. After a hard day’s lectures, there is organised social activity for every night of the event. On Thursday evening you can attend the complimentary Exhibition hall drinks reception which attracts a great conference crowd to celebrate the end of the opening day. This year’s Friday night party will be at Zelig’s with special guests the renowned Bootleg Beatles, reminding us why Liverpool is a great hosting city for this event. Friday also has a special, exclusive event for VDPs at the grand St George’s Hall. Saturday evenings are reserved for the Conference dinner. A black-tie affair, this Saturday dinner will see out the last day of Conference in style and is a great opportunity to relax with your colleagues at the end of a hectic three days.

So, come and join us in Liverpool for some fantastic education and as much fun as you want!

Amarjit Gill
