About us: Our Mission and Who We Are

The British Dental Association Museum aims to selectively develop, preserve and interpret collections relating to the social history, practice and professional development of dentistry in the U.K.

It is maintained as a national resource for the dental profession, dental industry, researchers and members of the public with an interest in the development and future of dentistry.

To achieve this mission, the BDA Museum will:

Develop, manage and care for the collections according to the BDAM Collection Policy (2001)

Maintain two types of collection: Permanent and Reserve

Maintain, develop, manage, preserve and interpret the collections according to professional and ethical standards of the Museums Association and other related organisations

Make the collections and related information accessible to its intended audiences through display, accessible storage, the provision of collection-based programmes and exhibits, and curatorial expertise

BDA VOLUNTEERS

The BDA Museum has a small but dedicated team of enthusiastic volunteers who make an invaluable contribution towards the preservation and interpretation of the collections.

Current volunteer work focusses on cataloguing, photographing and storing new acquisitions to the collection, scanning photographs, researching enquiries, writing articles and assisting with group visits.

All team members receive a thorough induction and specialised training as appropiate. Volunteering at the Museum can also be included as non-verifiable CPD for dental and museum purposes! All we ask is that interested applicants can commit themselves on a regular basis to our programmes.

For more information about volunteering please contact Sally Dummer, Acting Head of Museum Services on 020 7563 4549 or by email s.dummer@bda.org.
