The Lindsay Society for the History of Dentistry, established in 1962, is a dynamic organisation dedicated to promoting research into the history of dentistry. The society is named after Lilian Lindsay (1871-1960), Britain’s first-qualified woman dentist and a leading dental historian. She became the BDA’s first female president in 1946.
The Lindsay Society aims to promote interest, study and research into the history of dentistry. It brings together members of the dental profession, historians and other interested people to research and discuss the history of dentists and dentistry.
Each year the society hosts the Lilian Lindsay Memorial Lecture at the BDA conference. It also organises a very friendly autumn conference with expert speakers from within and outside the profession.
