How do I become a VDP or FD?

    How do I become VDP?

What should I do at a job shop / meet the trainer event?  How does the 'matching' process work? What should I do if I am unable to find a place?  All these questions are answered in this section.

How do I become a VDP / FD?

An information pack on current VT/DFT schemes is sent to all UK dental students in December of your final year. The distribution is organised by dental schools. The packs explain VT/DFT and tell you where the schemes are. You can also find scheme details by visiting the postgraduate deanery websites, details of which can be found in the useful contacts section at the end of this guide.

Lists of training places will become available as soon as they are published by the postgraduate deans’/directors’ offices, usually around March each year, but sometimes significantly earlier. For example, the London deaneries application date is in early autumn. These lists will only be published for areas where there is a direct application process, however. In some areas, the deanery will operate a matching process. For those areas, information on the process and the job shop will be advertised on the deanery website instead of trainer listings. As the VT/DFT release dates become available they will be published on the BDA website.
