People management skills are not necessarily something you think about when you set out in a career in dentistry. Progression into a senior position, whether a dentist or DCP, can bring the responsibility of managing members of staff, which can often be a challenging and time consuming part of the role, especially when your progression has been on the merit of your clinical achievement rather than your managerial experience.
This comprehensive two day course will provide new managers with the fundamental skills needed to succeed and will also refresh the skills of existing managers, providing updated tools and techniques to use in this ever changing industry.
- Know how to select and recruit the right people for the job
- Appreciate how to manage yourself as ‘the manager’
- Gain leadership skills and understand different leadership styles to suit you and your team
- Know how to manage staff performance; providing support and giving feedback
- Be able to review staff development through effective appraisals
- Understand the importance of clear, two way communication and how to embed it in your team.
This training course meets the educational criteria set by the GDC for 11 hours of verifiable CPD and is certified by the British Dental Association.
About the speaker
Alison Miles-Jenkins, Chief Executive, Leading Light Learning
Alison is Chief Executive of Leading Light Learning, formerly Training to Achieve, the training and management development consultancy. She has 30 years' experience in management and business development, marketing and has been described as an 'inspiration' to the dental profession.
Alison has been working in the dental sector since 1998 with clients including the GDC, DCS, West Midlands Dental Deanery and numerous dental practices throughout the UK. With many other clients in diverse business sectors, Alison has helped more than 45,000 professionals and business owners become better at managing their staff and running and growing their businesses.
Alison is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and has taught Chartered Management Institute courses at the highest level. She is also a regular contributor to professional and clinical magazines and journals, and was the winner of an Education and Lifelong Learning Award in November 2010.
All cancellations must be received in writing either by email to firstname.lastname@example.org, or by post to The Events team, BDA, 64 Wimpole Street, London W1G 8YS. This must then be followed by a telephone call to confirm receipt. Cancellations received 29 days or more prior to the event will be entitled to a 100% credit voucher or refund. Cancellations received between 15 days and 28 days (inclusive) prior to the event will receive a 100% credit voucher to attend a future BDA event or a 75% refund. For late cancellations received between 1 day and 14 days (inclusive) prior to the event, no credit voucher or refund will be given. Failure to attend the event on the day will constitute late cancellation and no credit voucher or refund will be given. Substitutions are welcome at any time.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the programme may change and the BDA reserves the right to cancel the event or alter the venue and/or speakers.
