Dr Shanon Patel
BDS, MSc, MClinDent, MRD, PhD, FDS, FHEA
Consultant Endodontist/Reader, Endodontic Postgraduate Unit, King’s College London; Specialist practice, London.
Shanon divides his time between working in a large multi-disciplinary specialist practice in Central London (four days a week), and teaching future specialist endodontists in the Postgraduate Unit at King’s College London Dental Institute (one day a week). His PhD thesis assessed the use of CBCT in the management of endodontic problems and he is actively involved in research, having (co-)supervised over 50 Masters and PhD students.
There is a direct synergy between Shanon’s clinical practice and the research that he carries out. His background as a clinical academic has resulted in him publishing clinically relevant, high impact papers. Shanon has published over 70 papers and three national and European guidelines in dental imaging. He has co-authored five textbooks which have been translated into four different languages.
Current clinical research themes he is involved in include dental trauma, microbiology, cone beam CT, endodontic treatment outcomes and bioceramic endodontic materials.
Dr Federico Foschi
BDS, MSc, PhD, FHEA, FDS RCS
Consultant Endodontist/Senior Lecturer, Endodontic Postgraduate Unit, King’s College London; Specialist practice, London.
Federico graduated with Honours from the University of Bologna and holds a PhD in Endodontic Microbiology from the Forsyth Institute, Harvard University in Boston, USA.
In 2009 he moved to the UK after being appointed Lecturer in Endodontology. He successfully completed the five-year training in Restorative Dentistry at Guy’s Hospital, leading to membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is a registered Endodontic Specialist and maintains a constant referral-based practice.
He teaches at Guy’s Hospital, London, as a part-time Consultant/Senior Lecturer to both undergraduate and postgraduate students and has presented at numerous international congresses. He received the Pulp Biology award. He is a reviewer for several dental journals and has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers in the field of endodontics. He is the Programme Director of the MSc in Endodontics at King’s College London.

The seminar meets the educational criteria set by the GDC for verifiable CPD (6 hours) and is certified by the British Dental Association.
