Our mission is to fight for the interests of UK dental students. We're here to make sure dental students views are heard and acted on.
The Student Committee represents the opinions and concerns of UK dental students. We ensure student opinions are incorporated into wider BDA activities and policy development.
We have won important battles for young dentists:
We have successfully campaigned for the timing of Dental Foundation Training assessments to be retained in the autumn term of the final year.
We have campaigned for all eligible UK graduates to have access to foundation and vocational training places. In 2014 and 2015 every single eligible UK graduate found a placement.
We fought to overturn the proposed £2,000 pay cut for foundation dentists in 2014. In August 2014, the planned pay cut was scrapped in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Then in September 2015, 2016 and 2017 new graduates also received a 1% pay rise. Graduate pay in England, Wales and Northern Ireland for 2017/18 is now £31,355.
There are challenging times and ahead and the BDA continues to campaign to ensure dental students get a fair deal. Please help support us by getting involved and raising issues through your BDA student reps. You can also keep up to date with our work via our website and support us on our social media channels.
