Overview
This advice provides a general overview of the main elements of the NHS Pension Scheme in relation to dentists working in the salaried services within a hospital, community or salaried general dental service setting: the 1995 section of the Scheme and the 2008 section, which affected new entrants from April 2008 and those who chose to transfer to the 2008 section during the NHS Choices exercise.
The NHS Choices exercise provided a once-and-for-all opportunity for members of the 1995 section to transfer their benefits to the 2008 section. Those who chose to move from the 1995 section to the 2008 cannot transfer their benefits back to the 1995 section at a later stage
NHS pensions are administered by the NHS pensions agency for the relevant country:
- England and Wales: NHS Business Services Authority NHS Pensions (NHSBSA)
- Scotland: Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA)
- Northern Ireland: Business Services Organisation HSC Pension Service (BSO)
