Group of dentists from the Community Dental Service

An interview with a group of retired dentists with experience of the Community Dental Service took place on 4th October 2011. The group are part of the ‘John Wallace’ Collection, a group of retired dentists from the Home Counties who regularly meet informally.

The interview covered memories of dentistry pre-1948, the significant impacts on their professional lives, the changes in dentistry witnessed in their careers, the changing roles of dental care professionals, dental health education, management of services, dental education and the 1974 reorganisation of public services which led to the Local Authority School Dental Services developing into the Community Dental Services.
