Robert graduated from Dundee University in 1986 and after a short spell in dental practice worked in Dundee and Manchester Dental Hospitals before taking up a Lectureship in Periodontology at Cardiff University. A return to the NHS saw him complete his specialist training and then secure a position as a Clinical Senior Lecturer and Consultant in Restorative Dentistry in Cardiff in 1999. Robert describes his research interests as somewhat eclectic having studied finite element analysis for his Master's Degree and decisions with regard to restoration replacement for his PhD; he has published widely. He has recently been appointed Head of Dental Education, Scholarship and Innovation which is one of the three main research themes in the Dental School. He is the Senior Admissions Tutor and has been involved in dental school admissions for the past 7 years and has a particular interest in the use of the multiple mini interview process during student selection. Robert is a fully confirmed proponent of the WYSIWYG and KISS philosophies when it comes to clinical practice and chair side teaching and this along with a self-confessed, down to earth, no nonsense approach to dentistry has seen him ruffle a few feathers during his career but he assures us that is not his problem.
