Expert advice you can trust, when it matters most: Amit’s experience
Amit Koshal
When facing a challenging situation, Amit turned to us to help him find his footing again. We provided help from the outset and secured a positive outcome.
When things started to go wrong, Amit remembers feeling like things were out of his control.
“Initially it felt like I didn’t have control of the situation,” he says. “As dentists, our comfort zone is in the surgery, practising, so when something unexpected happens within the business, it’s hard to know how to deal with it.”
It was a moment that could happen to anyone, and one that no dentist wants to face alone, so Amit called our advice team.
“When I picked up the phone and the advice team were on the other end, taking notes down, and reassuring me, it felt like I could breathe. I could focus on managing my own stress in the situation.”
Support when life doesn’t stop
As the situation unfolded, life went on. The pressures of running a dental practice and life responsibilities all collided.
“It makes you feel numb,” Amit says. “I had a few life challenges going on at the same time. There’s a tendency to see each issue in isolation, but it all adds up.”
With our support, he didn’t feel alone.
“It was fortunate that I had support with the tribunal. It meant less stress in that area, so I could focus on everything else life was throwing at me.”
Someone who understands dentistry
Alongside the tribunal, Amit was still leading his team, managing patients, and protecting his reputation. All while dealing with immense pressure.
“I became worried, and I didn’t know what more I could do. I felt like I had lost faith in people to a certain degree. It was lonely. The advice team offered reassurance when I needed it.”
Reputation and trust are a huge part of practising dentistry. Our advisors understand that instinctively because they know your world.
“It comes down to your reputation,” Amit says. “That’s the biggest thing. Handing over control is hard, but having someone to talk things through with, and explore different approaches made all the difference.”
Finding perspective
As the case progressed, things began to shift.
“Once we started going through the information for the legal hearing and I spent more time with the advice team, things came into perspective. They weren’t just working on the case; they were people I could talk things through with.”
That personal connection and sense of having someone on your side, helped him regain clarity and confidence.
Peace of mind all in one place
“The landscape of practising dentistry is more complex than ever,” Amit reflects. “From health and safety to employment law and practice management, there is a lot to think about. I realised that if I could pay for peace of mind and a safety net, why wouldn’t I? The BDA has been a one-stop shop. One phone call- and I can get the advice and support I need.”
Because our team understand dentistry, he didn’t have to spend time or energy explaining the basics.
“It’s all about conserving energy. If I had to explain to someone how a dental practice works, it would have taken an extra 20% of energy, and I just didn’t have that to give.”
In your corner, when it matters most
“It’s nice to speak to someone who relates to you,” he says. “To have somebody in your corner who knows the industry, understands what’s at stake, and has the knowledge to fight your fight.”
Our advisors have remained a source of support for Amit.
“They have been there afterwards too. I’ve had to call about a few related things, and they’ve continued to be supportive. They haven’t just moved on.”
The peace of mind every dentist deserves
Things will always go wrong from time to time, that’s life, but you don’t have to face it alone.
“For me, the peace of mind has been important,” Amit says. “Having everything in-house with the BDA made life easier and meant I could focus on what I needed to.”
