Wales: Updated associate agreement available

We've updated our associate agreement template  for use with the contract reform model, please ensure you are using the most up to date version. Use of this agreement requires individual performance data such as new patients and recalls being available for the NHS targets.

For a period of time, reliable data about individual's performance against NHS targets may not be available. To remedy this, we have also drafted a side agreement  which should be used until reporting data can be accessed.

Safeguarding children survey

A research team from Newcastle University and The University of Sheffield are carrying out a survey to understand the factors influencing how dental practitioners safeguard children who miss dental appointments in the UK.

The researchers are hoping to gain an improved awareness of the barriers staff face when implementing missed appointment and/or safeguarding procedures in general dental practice.

Please take part in the study by sharing your invaluable experience to help feed into the evolving knowledge of this important area of practice.

Wales: Updated associate agreement available

Practice owners in Wales have two contract options, UDA-only or the contract reform model. We have created a UDA-template  and can confirm that no ACORN data will be required when submitting FP17W forms.

We've updated our associate agreement template  for use with the contract reform model, following information from the Welsh Government. Use of this agreement requires individual performance data such as new patients and recalls being available for the NHS targets.

Due to individual data not being available yet, we have also drafted a side agreement  which should be used until reporting data can be accessed. If you have any questions, our advice team are here to support our Extra and Expert members with one-to-one advice. You can call 020 7935 0875 or email advice.enquiries@bda.org to get in touch.

England: Your views on NHS contract

A year into the contract reform process, we are seeing a growing exodus from NHS dentistry. Progress on reform has been slow, and we are still waiting for the "quick wins" we were promised to be delivered.

In his latest blog, Shawn Charlwood, GDPC Chair, discusses our position: "Thousands of dentists in England have left the NHS since the start of the pandemic, and both private and NHS providers continue to report severe workforce problems. A shift to a 95% threshold from April and the signal that it will be full targets from July, is not the supportive messaging the profession and our patients need right now. Drastic action is needed to stem the flow."

Shawn will give evidence to Parliament's Health and Social Care Committee as part of their ongoing enquiries. Your feedback is key to the evidence we offer, so please consider completing our survey and make your voice heard on these important issues.
