Report overview

Improving economic conditions have helped support a more favourable backdrop for investment, with the private sector fuelling growth across the dental practice market. The report highlights continued activity in practice acquisitions and sustained interest from both existing owners and first-time buyers.

Workforce pressures remain a key challenge across the dental market, although stronger pay growth and a more stable economic outlook have provided some support for recruitment and retention. The report also examines the ongoing financial pressures facing NHS dentistry, particularly where treatment delivery costs exceed contractual funding. Recent NHS contract changes have helped improve alignment between funding and the costs of delivering care, while the 2026/27 pay settlement provides a further positive signal for the sector. Mixed-practice models continue to play an important role in supporting service delivery and investment.

Within the private dental market, fee growth has not fully kept pace with wider inflation. Rather than indicating excessive price growth, recent fee movements are more consistent with a market seeking to recover costs while remaining sensitive to patient affordability and competition.

Overall, the findings suggest a sector that remains under pressure but is showing signs of greater stability, supported by improving economic conditions, policy developments, and sustained activity in the dental practice acquisition market.
