Members are at the heart of everything we do, they form our policy and direct our campaigns. We know that dentists aren’t all the same, but we also believe that as a profession we are stronger together.

What issues does the BDA campaign on?

Our campaigns cover a wide range of subjects, from dentist’s rights and pay to the national importance of oral health.

Topics the BDA has campaigned on recently include:

How else do we work on behalf of dentists?

We commission independent research into issues facing dentistry. For example in 2013 and again in 2014 we sought to measure dentists' personal well-being and compare their levels with the UK adult population as a whole. The resulting report will help us lobby on issues affecting the profession.

We also represent the voice of modern dentistry in the media, our experts are quoted on everything from water fluoridation to dentist pay. Visit our news pages to find out what we are saying.

What have we achieved?

  • In August 2014 the BDA forced the government to do a U-turn on plans to cut foundation dentist pay by £2,000. Read more here.
  • Our campaign against the GDC’s ARF hike led to the increase being ruled unlawful by the High Court. Follow our continued fight against the 55% increase here.

How can I raise an issue I think the BDA should be campaigning on?

If it’s important to you, it’s important to us. Please let us know of any issue you think the BDA should be campaigning on by emailing enquiries@bda.org
