Get involved

The BDA's Branch and Section network offers a varied programme of educational events on both clinical and general topics, plus social events to help raise the profile of the BDA and the profession at a local level.
The network is always keen to hear from BDA members who are interested in getting involved, whether this be in the area where you live or where you work. Opportunities arise every now and again for someone to take on the role of Chair, Secretary or Treasurer on the committee, but it's always good to have enthusiastic members on the wider committee too who can help generate ideas for events (educational or social) and help with the running of the Branch or Section.

For information, a brief overview of the role of Chair, Secretary or Treasurer are below, as well as what a role on the committee would entail:

Branch:

Chair

The Chair, with the help from the Committee comes up with the ideas, content and speaker suggestions for the Branch/Section event programme for the year and chairs all meetings. Sections don’t have Presidents so the Chair of a Section will usually fill this role locally.

Secretary

Secretary
The Secretary is responsible for maintaining copies of Branch/Section rules and AGM papers, arranging educational and social events and committee meetings in terms of booking venues, liaising with speakers and the Branch and Section Support Team.

Treasurer

The Treasurer looks after the Branch/Section bank account, pays speakers and venues, and ensures an accurate record of the income and expenditure for the Branch/Section are kept. The Section Treasurer also prepares and sends copies of the accounts/reports to the Branch when required.

Committee
General committee members help with new ideas for the Section, are part of the decision making team for the Branch/Section, and would attend committee meetings and the CPD events. As part of the local team they would also help out at the CPD events when required.

Please note that all Committee members and those holding the role of Chair, Secretary or Treasurer need to be a BDA member.
