Community Dental Services Group

The Group supports Community Dentists (salaried dentists working in Community Dental Services (CDS), PDS, PCTDS or DACs)  throughout the UK by providing opportunities for high quality CPD, specially tailored to CDS needs. The Group works hard to develop study days, events & courses and the Annual Presidential and Scientific Meeting is one of the highlights of the calendar.

Structure of the Group

The CDS Group represents dentists as described above, working throughout the UK through its thirteen regional Divisions. National members are then elected to the Group's General Management Committee.

The Group is primarily concerned with the educational and support needs of dentists working in CDS, PDS, PCTDS or DACs. It regularly organises postgraduate courses, often in conjunction with other specialist societies. It has strong links with SDC which negotiates terms and conditions of employment on behalf the above groups.

CDS Group aims

  • To promote the objects and aims of the Association and to foster and maintain cordial relations between members of the Group and other sections of the profession.

  • To assist and advise the Association in promoting and safeguarding the interests of all members of the Group.

  • To advance the interests of the Community Dental Services; by the cultivation of a professional spirit among members of the Group, by consideration of subjects appertaining to dental and allied science, and to promote Division and Sub-Divisions for the furtherance of these objects.

  • To provide a forum for the dissemination of information relating to the Community Dental Services and to gather information and opinion on matters affecting the services from members of the Group.

Quality in Dental Services Scheme

Applications for assessment for the QIDS scheme have been temporarily suspended whilst discussions take place about the possibility of linking the scheme with the BDA Good Practice Scheme.
For those services working towards the assessment please continue to do so.  At a recent assessment, the service commented that ‘all the evidence they had collected for QIDS had proved very useful during a CQC Trust inspection and the Trust had been very impressed’.
