Explore the guidelines set out by the CQC and GDC to ensure your practice is compliant to nationally recognised standards.
'Is your service/practice safe? Is it caring? Is it responsive? Is it effective? Is it well led?' (CQC key line of enquiries)
At times it can seem quite impossible to comply with all your obligations.
Attendees will also be taken through a step by step process of how to keep quality records in order to protect your practice and the team, as well as supporting the welfare of patients.
- Be familiar with the key issues surrounding CQC registration and inspections
- Gain a better understanding of health and safety issues in dentistry
- Know how to comply with current infection control and decontamination guidelines
- Be aware of the GDC's standards and its complaints and fitness to practice procedures
- Understand the requirements surrounding consent, confidentiality and data protection
- Appreciate the basic principles and requirements for writing quality records.
This training course meets the educational criteria set by the GDC for 5 hours of core verifiable CPD, 1 hour verifiable CPD and is certified by the British Dental Association.
About the speakers
Dick Birkin, Head of Regional Services, BDA
Originally a GDP in the North West, before joining the BDA Dick was a manager with the Dental Reference Service for 24 years. He also spent time as a Clinical Policy Adviser for the DRS where he worked closely with SHAs and PCTs in analysing data and managing risk. He has given evidence at over a hundred disciplinary hearings and has acted as an expert witness at the GDC.
Sarah Davison, Good Practice Manager, BDA
Sarah manages BDA Good Practice and is responsible for the management and development of BDA Good Practice. She has been at the BDA for over 6 years, prior to which Sarah worked in training, assessment and coaching including working for a number of National Awarding Bodies. Sarah has a BSc in Sports Science, a postgraduate certificate in Education and in 2010 completed the FGDP Certificate in the Appraisal of Dental Practices.
James Goldman, Head of Employment and General Practice Advice, BDA
James qualified as a barrister in 1994 and has worked as an in house lawyer, in the retail, recruitment and public sectors. He has provided advice on a range of employment and commercial issues, has appeared in a number of tribunal cases and has lectured on a range of topics.
Richard Harris, Head of Compliance, BDA
Richard advises members on CQC-related issues for England and is also involved in other regulatory set-ups in the rest of the UK. Now in his second stint at the BDA, Richard has 15 years' experience of advising dentists on a variety of practice-based issues and has been involved with the developing CQC situation since 2010. Richard has also been in the army, the civil service, worked for a police authority and has also worked for a large NHS hospital.
Edward Sinclair, Practice Management Consultant (Health and Safety), BDA
Edward Sinclair is a dually qualified dentist and microbiologist. His final year dissertation was on Hepatitis B, a dentally relevant topic. Utilising his experience of working in NHS and private practice Edward is currently engaged as a specialist advisor in the BDA's Compliance team. Edward advises members on all aspects of health and safety law, infection control and decontamination requirements. He has a particular interest in the issues facing young dentists in terms of employment and is also studying for a Masters in Public Health.
Juliet Irvine, Head of Operations, Advisory Services, BDA
Juliet looks after the operational aspects of the advice and services provided to members. Alongside this role she advises on NHS regulations, business and commercial aspects of running a dental practice.Juliet has been working at the BDA for 5 years, and her past experience includes working in an in-house team for the NHS as well as in private practice in real estate and corporate departments in London and in Paris.
All cancellations must be received in writing either by email to email@example.com, or by post to The Events team, BDA, 64 Wimpole Street, London W1G 8YS. This must then be followed by a telephone call to confirm receipt. Cancellations received 29 days or more prior to the event will be entitled to a 100% credit voucher or refund. Cancellations received between 15 days and 28 days (inclusive) prior to the event will receive a 100% credit voucher to attend a future BDA event or a 75% refund. For late cancellations received between 1 day and 14 days (inclusive) prior to the event, no credit voucher or refund will be given. Failure to attend the event on the day will constitute late cancellation and no credit voucher or refund will be given. Substitutions are welcome at any time.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the programme may change and the BDA reserves the right to cancel the event or alter the venue and/or speakers.
