Aims
  • Review the limited applications of Ante's Law

  • Discuss Linden and Nyman's research into bridge failure and periodontal disease

  • Appreciate the use of 'stress breakers' in reducing failure rates

  • Present the criteria for Maryland bridge prescription.

Learning objectives
  • Apply Ante's law discriminately to the clinical scenario

  • Implement Linden and Nyman's research into treatment planning for bridge design

  • Understand the reasons for bridge failure and reduce/eliminate their occurrence

  • Demonstrate the retentive features for Maryland bridges

  • Produce posterior bridge designs for fixed and fixed moveable prostheses

  • Incorporate into bridge preparations features to compensate for the curve of Monson

  • Construct chair side fabricated prototype bridges.
