  • ​Understand the importance of reaching a definitive diagnosis before committing to treatment
  • Have a knowledge of the armamentarium needed to correctly diagnose disease of endodontic origin.
Learning objectives
  • Apply biological principles in conjunction with clinical expertise in the management of difficult diagnostic cases
  • Understand the concept that diagnosis is a theme running throughout treatment procedures from pre-operative radiography to restoration of the root filled tooth.
Learning content

This one hour lecture will focus on some of the difficulties faced in the diagnosis of endodontic problems. Tips and techniques to simplify the process will be highlighted and clinical cases will be discussed to understand how to apply this knowledge.

Bob Philpott

Bob qualified from University College Cork Dental School in 2003 and completed his endodontic training at Eastman in London in 2009, before gaining his MRD from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd). He has worked as a specialist in endodontics in Ireland, England and Australia. He currently divides his time as a consultant in endodontics at the Edinburgh Dental Institute and in private practice at Edinburgh Dental Specialists. He is the Training Programme Director for the DClinDent in Endodontology at the University of Edinburgh. He also acts as an examiner for the specialty exit examinations at the RCSEd and is a key opinion leader for Dentsply.
