​​​CPD1 hour 30 minutes

Interactive session aimed at providing a greater understanding of roles and responsibilities to effectively safeguard children and adults. The session will explore the ‘Think Family’ approach and discuss how safeguarding can occur in any community, regardless of Indices of deprivation. The session will aso provide key updates on changes in legislation for both children and adults.

Learning objectives
  • Discuss current changes in legislation in child and adult safeguarding
  • Recognise what makes a child/adult more vulnerable to suffering harm and  what actions to take
  • Feel more confident in working with resistant individuals/families when safeguarding is identified
  • Be more observant and inquisitive of who attends with the child/adult
  • Have an awareness of further safeguarding accredited courses.
​​Learning content

The aim of the session will be to to allay fears by exploring why safeguarding is so important, how to recognise it, who is particularly vulnerable and what actions are required when a concern is identified. The session will also explore how important all of the members of your practice team are in identifying and alerting concerns. Safeguarding scenarios will be included to make the session more meaningful.

Carol has worked in the specialist field of child safeguarding for over nine years, following a long NHS career as a Nurse, Midwife and Health Visitor. Six years ago she became a freelance trainer, authoring and delivering safeguarding courses to a wide plethora, including at BDA on behalf of the Child Protection Training Company. In recognition of the importance of keeping up to date in this field, she works on a zero basis in a Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) alongside police and social care, and in a voluntary capacity is part of a National team for Scouts reviewing safeguarding and safety incidents.
