Learning objectives
  • Outline the key changes in respect of classification and management of TMD
  • Identify the differences between trigeminal neuropathic pain and trigeminal neuralgia
  • List the key psychological principles which non-psychologists can use to manage facial pain patients
  • Discuss members cases.
Learning content

A review of current dento-legal issues in general dental practice. The presentation content will include a review of some interesting / unusual dento-legal cases and what can be learned from them to illustrate the key risk management principles.

BDS, MB BChir, MD, FDSRCS, FFDRCSI, FFPM RCA, FHEA, Facial Pain lead consultant at  EDH, Hon. Professor at UCL

Professor Zakrzewska is Facial Pain lead consultant at  EDH, Hon. Professor at UCL. After obtaining a dental degree (Kings College, London), medical degree (Cambridge) Professor Zakrzewska specialised in orofacial pain. She established the UKs largest multidisciplinary facial pain unit at UCLH and is now setting up a trigeminal neuralgia institute. Nominated by IADR as the senior neuroscientist of 2018. She has written four books, 20 chapters and over 130 papers.
