Although this is a free event for BDA members and DCPs, advance booking is essential so that we know numbers for seating, refreshments and preparing named CPD certificates.

​​​​AimTo introduce the Orthodontic Department at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, the cases they treat, appropriate cases to refer and also to define interceptive orthodontic treatment and the role of the GDP in managing some of the more common problems.
Learning objectives
  • Identifying some of the more common orthodontic problems at an early and appropriate stage
  • Recognising cases suitable for interceptive orthodontics
  • Undertaking treatment aimed at minimising the severity of a developing malocclusion
  • Triaging orthodontic cases appropriately for referral to Specialist Practice or the Hospital.
Learning content

At the end of the session GDP's will have been introduced to the Orthodontic Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, recognise the main clinicians involved in the delivery of secondary and tertiary orthodontic care in Norfolk and also understand some basic principles in the management of developing malocclusions - recognising problems early, treating problems accordingly and referring appropriately to specialist practitioners - to assist the delivery of high quality, efficient and co-ordinated orthodontic care for their patients.

Mark Bainbridge

Mark qualified from Sheffield Dental School in 2000 and following Senior House Officer, Community Dental Officer and Associate General Dental Practitioner posts undertook his basic specialist training with the Wales Deanery before progressing to higher specialist training with the Oxford Deanery.  He became a Consultant Orthodontist in 2015 and joined the Oral health Department at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in 2018.
