Learning aims and objectives

Mick Armstrong Lecture:

  • To update members on the current political, regulatory and contractual issues pertinent to dentistry
  • To ensure dentista are informed of any threats or opportunities  on the near horizon
  • Updates on contract reform, CQC, GDC and Brexit.

Susie Sanderson Lecture:

By the end of the lecture attendees will have an appreciation of:

  • The factors driving the phase down of dental amalgam now
  • Issues covered by the Mercury Regulations and how they apply in dental practice
  • Considerations for managing the implementation of the Mercury Regulations
  • The current discussions taking place in the Minamata Conference of Parties.

Mick Armstrong

Chair, BDA Principal Executive Committee

Mick was elected as Chair of the BDA’s Principal Executive Committee in March 2013. He has been a member of the PEC since June 2012.

He qualified in 1985 from Newcastle and has spent all of his practising life in General Practice. For the last 21 years he has been a partner in Armstrong & Haire Ltd, a six surgery, mostly NHS practice in Castleford, West Yorkshire.

He has served on his LDC as Chair, the BDA’s Representative Body and was Chair of LDC Conference in 2010. He was involved with FD training for 10 years and in 2016 he was elected to the Board of the Council of European Dentists as Treasurer.

Susie Sanderson OBE

A general dentist and practice owner for many years, Susie is past chair of the British Dental Association's Executive Board, immediate past President of the BDA 2018-19 and Speaker of the General Assembly of the World Dental Federation (FDI) 2017-20. She also represents the BDA and Council of European Dentists on issues relating to the EU Mercury Regulation and Antimicrobial Stewardship and was a presenter in a recent webinar on the Minamata Convention hosted by the World Dental Federation FDI for its members.

Susie's work at Dental Protection focuses primarily on providing assistance, support and advice for members who are undergoing GDC and other regulatory investigations.
