The objective of this lecture is to provide evidence-based training in the following subject areas:

  • Status of amalgam (including regulations)
  • Case selection for amalgam restorations
  • Minimally invasive cavity preparation
  • Matrix techniques
  • Anatomical amalgam carving
  • Restoration maintenance.

Posterior composites: A practical guide

The objective of this lecture is to provide evidence-based training in the following subject areas:
  • Case selection
  • Shade selection
  • Minimally invasive cavity preparation
  • Isolation and adhesion
  • Matrix techniques 
  • Material selection (including bulk-fill composites)
  • Anatomical posterior composite placement and shaping
  • Light curing
  • Shaping, finishing and polishing.

Anterior composites: A practical guide

The objective of this lecture is to provide evidence-based training in the following subject areas:
  • Case selection
  • Shade selection
  • Minimally invasive cavity preparation
  • Isolation and adhesion
  • Step-by-step guide to composite veneers
  • Class IV composites (including layering techniques)
  • MI management of tooth wear using direct composite
  • Shaping, finishing and polishing techniques for anterior composites.

Louis is Head Dental Officer at Denplan. He has been a GDP for 30 years and is a clinical lecturer at the University of Birmingham School of dentistry and King’s college London. He delivers postgraduate lectures nationally and internationally on direct and indirect restorative techniques, minimally invasive dentistry, clinical photography and private dentistry. He runs a series of popular hands-on courses and is a member of Dental Update journal’s editorial board.

COVID-19 and staying safe at the venue

The BDA recommends the below measures to continue to keep attendees safe during this event:

  • If you feel at all unwell, we encourage you to take a lateral flow test the evening before you are due to arrive - should your test result be positive, we ask you not to attend
  • We advise sanitising your hands on arrival and continue to sanitise/wash your hands regularly throughout the event
  • We offer flexibility to transfer to a future event should you find yourself prevented from attending due to self-isolation or the onset of COVID-related symptoms.
If you have symptoms of COVID-19 (a new, persistent cough; a high temperature; or loss/changes to your sense of taste or smell) we kindly request you do not attend the event, although it is not a legal obligation to do so.
