Barbara Carey

Barbara Carey is a Consultant in Oral Medicine at Guy's Hospital, London. She completed her undergraduate dental degree at University College Cork and undergraduate medical degree at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, and worked in a variety of acute hospital and community dental and medical settings prior to relocating to the UK to undertake specialty training. She passed the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination in Oral Medicine in 2018 and obtained her Fellowship in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (Oral Medicine) and Fellowship in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (Oral Medicine) in 2018. She has also obtained her Fellowship to the Higher Education Authority (2017). Currently, she is an examiner for ORE examinations. Her interests include oral mucosal involvement related to dermatological conditions.

Peter Gordon

Peter Gordon is the Head of Terms and Conditions of Service at the British Medical Association (BMA). He leads the BMA’s team which deals with pay and contracts for doctors in England. He has many years of experience in negotiating and maintaining contracts at a national level and is currently centrally involved in the consultant contract negotiations. His role is split between negotiating, negotiating training and management. Over the course of his time at the BMA, he has held a number of roles representing doctors in the pay and policy sphere. Prior to that, he worked at Ford Motor Company, primarily in logistics and project management.


Liz Jones OBE

Liz Jones OBE was appointed as the GIRFT national lead for hospital dentistry in 2017 and since then has visited 106 trusts to discuss their data on provision of dental services. She was appointed Dean of Postgraduate Dentistry for London in 2003 to 2016, having worked in various hospitals across the city as a consultant orthodontist. She has been Lead Dean for Orthodontics and for Restorative Dentistry, and led on national recruitment to dental foundation training, which paved the way for other dental specialities to follow. In 2015, Mrs Jones was awarded an OBE for services to dental education.

Simon Wright

Simon Wright has been a principal partner of Glencairn Dental group of practices since 2002. He is a Founding Director of both Dental Implant Resource Ltd, and the ICE Hospital and
Postgraduate Training Centre. He is the Clinical Lead for the portfolio of Dental Postgraduate Masters course of Dental Implantology at Salford and Edge Hill University. Simon has a personal chair at the University of Salford, awarded for his practice and teaching in Dental Implantology. He lectures nationally and internationally on Dental Implantology and Human Factors. He is the co-author of the FGDP National Standards in Implant Dentistry - to be published later this year.

There is a poster competition for DCTs as part of this event.

Those who wish to enter must submit an abstract and A1 poster by 17:00 on Friday 24 January 2020.

There is a prize £100 for the winner and £50 for the runner up.
