Aim

This webinar will use research findings and clinical cases to demonstrate aetiology, prevention and early management of erosive tooth wear and dentine hypersensitivity (DH) that can be implemented in general dental practice.

 

Learning objectives

  • Understand the aetiology, susceptibility and impact of erosive tooth wear and DH
  • Gain knowledge on current preventative management of erosive tooth wear and DH
  • Examine oral hygiene practice to prevent dentine and enamel loss

About the speaker

Nicola West

Nicola West

Professor of Periodontology, Bristol Dental School

Nicola is a Professor of Periodontology, leading the Dental Clinical Trials Unit at the Bristol Dental School, UK.

She is the Secretary General of the European Federation of Periodontology and coming to the end of her term as Secretary of British Society of Periodontology, since 2012. Nicola is also a member of the Royal College of England Specialist Advisory Committee and General Dental Council Specialist Listing assessor.

Nicola conducts research in the international forum, attracting substantial industrial funding alongside EC and charity grants. Current research interests include: developing periodontal research methodologies, the scientific evaluation of oral health care products, tooth wear, dentine hypersensitivity, tooth staining and whitening; periodontal disease associated with Alzheimer’s Disease and cardiovascular diseases, bone augmentation and peri-implant lesions.

Since 1990, Nicola has maintained in parallel, a thriving private referral practice in the centre of Bristol undertaking specialist periodontal treatment, bone augmentation and implant placement. A particular sphere of interest includes the management of peri-implantitis lesions.
