A unique, blended learning, hands-on masterclass designed for busy clinicians who wish to excel and become competent in the justification, optimisation and reporting of small field of view CBCT.

What to expect

This clinician-led masterclass satisfies both Level 1 (core) training in dental CBCT* and Level 2 (further) training in dental CBCT justification and image interpretation as outlined by the latest FGDP Guidance for Dental Practitioners on the Safe Use of X-ray Equipment (2020). It also satisfies Level 2 (reporting) of the European Academy of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology (EADMFR) CBCT training guidelines assuring that both UK and European standards are met.


*When complemented by 5 hours of CPD in radiography and radiation protection (as recommended by the GDC for all dentists and dental care professionals as part of the enhanced CPD scheme)

Course overview

  • Pre-course reading: Pre-course reading (3 hours). The course fee includes a copy of the book, 'Cone Beam Computed Tomography in Endodontics' by Harvey, Patel et al. Quintessence, 2016.
  • Pre-course webinar: Introductory on-demand webinar covering a modern look at radiation dose to be viewed prior to attending day one (1 hour)
  • Day one - Saturday 16 March 2024: One-day in-person seminar and hands-on reporting (BDA HQ, London) (7 hours)
  • Self-directed reporting exercises: Case assignments provided by the faculty to complete in your own time (8 hours - eight exercises on USB key with enclosed software, each takes one hour). Note: access to a Windows-based laptop/PC will be required to complete the exercises, and completed assignments will need to be submitted by 9am on Monday 22 April 2024.
  • Day two - Saturday 27 April 2024: In-person case discussion of CBCT reports by the delegates and reflection. Feedback from the faculty on the reporting exercises prepared by the delegates. (BDA HQ, London) (5 hours).

Learning objectives

  • Compare 2D conventional radiographs and 3D CBCT imaging
  • Gain the skills needed to justify, take and interpret CBCT scans for the different dental disciplines
  • Write actionable CBCT reports.
