What to expect

Dental surgeries will see an emergency on average once every three years. This lecture will equip delegates with the skills and knowledge to manage an emergency.

Learning objectives

  • Evaluate the assessment of the deteriorating patient
  • Demonstrate a safe approach to a victim and assess a collapsed victim
  • Apply the correct technique of chest compression and rescue breathing
  • Operate the procedure for turning on AED and attaching electrodes correctly
  • Analyse the assessment of cardiac rhythm by the AED and the technique for performing safe defibrillation
  • Implement medical emergency training, including anaphylaxis
  • Execute the appropriate response for dealing with a choking adult.

Meet the speaker

John Saberton

Resuscitation Officer, Resuscitation Council Instructor

John's background is working in the Emergency department as a charge nurse. He has over 15 years experience as a Resuscitation Officer teaching in the hospital and community. He teaches everything from basic to advanced life support for both adult and paediatrics.

If you feel at all unwell, we encourage you to take a lateral flow test the evening before you are due to arrive - should your test result be positive, we ask you not to attend.

If your test is negative, but you do have symptoms of COVID-19 (a new, persistent cough; a high temperature; or loss/changes to your sense of taste or smell) we kindly request you consider not attending the event to mitigate any risk to other attendees.

Venue directions

North Middlesex Golf Club is situated five miles south of the M25 (junction 23) between High Barnet and Finchley and is just five miles from the City of London and the West End.

The Club can be easily reached from junctions 1 and 2 of the M1, from the A1 and A1M and Junctions 23 and 24 of the M25.

BY CAR (SATNAV POSTCODE N20 0NL)
The Club is five minutes north of the North Circular Road (A406). From the west, follow the North Circular, taking the B550 exit toward Muswell Hill/Friern Barnet. Merge on to Pinkham Way and then turn left on to Colney Hatch Lane (B550). Go through two roundabouts and after about a mile and a half you will come to the entrance to the club on your left.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
The nearest Tube station is Totteridge and Whetstone, the penultimate stop on the High Barnet branch of the Northern line. The station is less than a mile’s walk from the Club.

The nearest railway stations are at New Southgate and Oakleigh Park, both roughly a mile and a half from the Club. The typical off-peak service is three trains an hour to Moorgate and three trains an hour to Welwyn Garden City.
