This one-day event will update the dental team on issues relating to aspects of recommended CPD. This symposium is designed for the entire dental team and is relevant to those working in primary and secondary care. Key aspects of recommended core CPD topics will be covered and there will be opportunities to discuss challenging cases with a panel of experts.

Peter Dyer
Peter is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with a special interest in facial trauma, orthognathic surgery and oral medicine. He lectures to undergraduates and postgraduates. Peter completed Dentistry at the Royal Dental Hospital of London and Medicine at University College Hospital, London. He completed Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training in Bristol and The Royal London Hospital. He is a Responsible Officer at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay, and was Medical Director at the Trust and managed the hospital's clinical response to the Grayrigg train derailment in 2007 and the Swine Flu Pandemic in 2009. He has an interest in the history of medicine and dentistry and has appeared on Radio 4's, "The Origin of Stuff, History of the Toothbrush", co-curated an exhibition at the BDA about "Eric Cooper, Colditz Dentist".

Consultant Dental and Maxillofacial Radiologist, King’s College Hospital, London
Lee graduated from the University of Bristol and is recognised by the General Dental Council as a specialist in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology. Prior to commencing specialist training he worked in both dental practice and the hospital setting. He gained experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology. He completed his specialist training in Liverpool being trained by both Dental and Maxillofacial and ENT/Head and Neck Radiologists.
As a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Liverpool he was actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. He works as a Consultant Dental and Maxillofacial Radiologist at Kings College Hospital, London.

David qualified from The University of Liverpool in 1998. He spent several years working in various hospitals in the North West and then spent 10 years working in general dental practice with a special interest in Oral Surgery.
He helped set up the Tier 2 Oral Surgery service in Cumbria and was a founder member of the Cumbria LDN and Oral Surgery MCN. He started working for the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay as a Specialty Doctor in 2012 and move into full time hospital practice in 2015.
He is currently the Clinical Lead for the Maxillofacial Surgery Service and an Honorary Clinical Lecturer for the UCLan School of Dentistry.

Joe spent 28 years in general practice and for eight of those was the dental practice advisor for Berkshire. He tutored at the Eastman Dental Hospital’s School of Hygiene and Therapy 17 years and spent a decade as a dento-legal adviser with one of the large mutual defence organisations.
He now works for BDA Indemnity. Joe has a particular interest in the legal aspects of prescribing within the dental setting and was recently made an honorary member of the BADT.

Community Specialist Practitioner, Public Health Nursing - Health Visiting, and self employed Safeguarding Training Consultant
Yvonne has worked in the NHS for 40 years as an Adult Nurse, Midwife, Health Visitor, Domestic Abuse Lead and Specialist Safeguarding Practitioner. She has experience of responding to safeguarding on the frontline and also in influencing safeguarding policy, training and supervision of staff across the health economy and multi agency partnership working and strategy development in relation to safeguarding of children and adults.
She has recently led on delivering awareness training on non-fatal strangulation to multi agency staff across Lancashire. Yvonne presently works on a self employed basis with UCLan developing and delivering safeguarding training to UCLan staff. She is passionate about raising awareness of safeguarding to empower professionals to be able to identify concerns and respond at the earliest point.

Chair in Oral Surgery, Programme Lead for MClin Dent Oral Surgery
Kate teaches all aspects of undergraduate and postgraduate Oral Surgery and oral diseases. She completed her Academic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (AACOMS) in the Yorkshire region in 2013 and has expertise in all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She has a special interest in managing anxious patients and in the management of medical emergencies in dental practice. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Kate is a member of the Teaching sub-committee of ABAOMS and is President of the Association of Academic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and has been co-author of a number of leading publications in undergraduate oral surgery education. She is reviewer for the Journal of Oral Surgery and has published extensively on medical emergency management.
Kate was awarded the Lady Estelle Wolfson Fellowship (RCS England) and performs a number of College roles. She is an examiner for Membership in Oral Surgery, ISFE Oral Surgery and MOMS (membership in oral and maxillofacial surgery).

Lead Dental Nurse for Undergraduate Courses, University of Central Lancashire
Anne is the lead dental nurse for the undergraduate courses at The University of Central Lancashire. She worked at the University of Liverpool for many years before moving to UCLan during its foundation.
Anne has played a pivotal role in the development of the dental school, personally supporting every BDS and DT student through their time at UCLan. Anne leads on the cross infection teaching for the school and provides training for all the dental nurses in our Dental Education Centres.
When not at work, Anne enjoys leisurely pursuits and is an active member in her church choir.
