What to expect

This webinar aims to inform attendees of how common oral cancer is, what the common sites in the oral cavity for oral cancer are, which patients are particularly at risk of developing oral cancer, how oral cancer can be treated surgically and non-surgically and the prognosis and risk factors for oral cancer.

The lecture will talk about the incidents of oral cancer, look at patients who are at particular risk of oral cancer, how oral cancer can be recognised and which sites are most commonly involved. Treatment modalities for oral cancer will also be discussed along with the prognosis and survivability of this cancer.

Learning objectives

  • Identify the most common areas in the oral cavity where oral cancer occurs and what the characteristics of an oral cancer are in terms of its appearance
  • Understand which patients are at high risk of oral cancer
  • Recognise some of the other stigmata of oral cancer and examine the patient accordingly
  • Determine the survivability of oral cancers and be able to stage an oral cancer once it presents in the dental patient.

Meet the speaker

Darryl Coombes Darryl Coombes Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

Darryl is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He qualified as a dental surgeon from King’s College London in 1993 then qualified as a medical doctor from King’s College London in 2000. He then went on to complete his surgical training and higher surgical training in oral and maxillofacial surgery before eventually becoming appointed as a Consultant for the Queen Victoria Hospital in 2008.

In 2018 he limited his practice to the private sector. His interests at the moment are oral surgery, oral pathology, oral medicine and aesthetic facial plastic surgery.
