Essex Branch and Essex LDC - Regional Study Day

Nick qualified BDS from the Royal London Hospital in 1990 and has since gone on to gain additional qualifications with distinction in the MSc in Restorative Dental Practice in 2009 at UCL Eastman, Fellowship of the College of General Dentistry and Fellowship of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at Royal College of Surgeons England, Membership of the Faculty of Dental Trainers at Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh and a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from University of Essex. He is employed as the Deputy Chief Dental Officer for England, Joint Regional Chief Dental Officer for East of England and as Professor of Oral Health Sciences at the University of Essex and programme lead in the MSc for Periodontology and Advanced Periodontal Practice.

Tony is the Clinical Director of Sharrow Dental Care, Advent and Springfield Dental Care; under his guidance the group has grown and developed into the largest and most influential oral health service provider in Essex, operating across three sites in Chelmsford.

Tony served for 24 years as a Postgraduate dental tutor, while combining this role with teaching at the Royal London Hospital dental school, the University of Essex and coordinating the Diploma in Sports Dentistry course at the prestigious Eastman Dental Institute in London. He also continues as the elected representative of the 1500 dentists in Essex, having fulfilled the role for 16 years.

Through his involvement in sports dentistry, Dr Clough currently works with the British Boxing team, providing advice, protective equipment and dental care as required. He has acted as Dental Advisor on behalf of the International Olympic Committee Medical Commission in every Olympic games since Beijing 2008.

Clinically, Tony is responsible for undertaking much of the complicated surgery within the Practice including implant surgery and bone grafting procedures.

His main interests are:

• Prosthetic reconstruction using dental implants;
• Trauma surgery – immediate and long-term management;
• Joint cases combining orthodontic and restorative aspects;
• General aesthetic dental work to give his patients their beautiful smiles back!

Clint qualified at The Royal London Hospital and is now retired after working for some 33 years in the NHS, initially as an associate and then as a practice owner. He also worked at Southend Hospital in the Orthodontic Department for 2 years and was a Vocational Trainer for 12 years from its inception. Clint sat on various Clinical Governance, Oral Health Advisory and Disciplinary Panels, and was elected to Secretary of the South Essex LDC in 2004. He has been the Assistant Secretary to the Essex LDC since the amalgamation of the North and South branches and he is also the co-ordinator for the Eastern Region LDCs.

Louise qualified from The London Hospital Dental School in 1990 and went on to complete vocational training in London, followed by associate jobs in mixed NHS and private practices in Yorkshire, Surrey and Essex. In 2011 Louise set up The Essex Dental Clinic in Earls Colne and having completed a post graduate certificate in dental education, became a foundation dental trainer. The practice continues to thrive and offers all aspects of dentistry and is involved with local NHS pilots as well as providing an NHS level 2 oral surgery and sedation referral service.

Hiten graduated from Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Dental Institute, London in 2003. In 2005, he started specialist training in Prosthodontics at Guy's Hospital, London whilst working as a Staff Grade Oral Surgeon at King's College Hospital. In 2007 Hiten was appointed as an Associate Specialist in Restorative Dentistry at St. George's Hospital, London where he practiced all restorative modalities on a referral basis.Hiten works for referral practices in London, and Essex. He also enjoys teaching restorative dentistry to dental students at Guy's Hospital and is involved in running postgraduate courses on Implants for the London Deanery. He currently holds the position of Consultant in Prosthodontics at Guy's Hospital.

Georg has been working as an associate dentist in Harlow since 2008 with a clinical focus is in Paediatric Dentistry. He obtained a doctorate in Germany and a MSc in Paediatric Dentistry at the Eastman. His non clinical roles include regionally being a Senior Leadership Fellow (MSE), a LDC Essex rep and nationally being a BDA GDPC rep (representing Hertfordshire/West Essex) and being part of the BDA English Council rep (representing Essex).
