A day with Francesca Vailati

After graduating in Medicine with honors from the University of Bari in 1996, Dr. Vailati left Europe to begin her dental training in the United States. She obtained her second degree in Dentistry in 2000 at one of the most prestigious American universities of the Ivy League Group, the University of Pennsylvania (UPENN, USA).

In 2003, after 3 years of full-time training, she obtained her specialty in Prosthodontics at the University of Connecticut (UCONN, USA), also serving as head of implant surgery at the Prosthodontic Department of the same University.

Returning to Europe in 2004, she joined the Prosthodontics Department headed by Prof. Urs Belser at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. After working alongside one of the world’s best dentists in the field of aesthetics and bonding, Prof. Pascal Magne, Dr. Vailati took his place (after Prof. Magne moved abroad), pursuing clinical research on bonding techniques combined with the principles of classical prosthodontics learned in America This marked the birth of Adhesive Prosthesis, based on reducing the invasiveness of the initial treatment for Dental Erosion.

In 2005, Dr Vailati developed the 3STEP method to treat patients suffering from tooth wear, thanks to a global approach which was no longer invasive as it had been until then, and became a champion in the fight for dental preservation. Thanks to the huge number of patients rehabilitated with the 3STEP method, she also became an expert in the treatment of patients suffering from Bruxism.

Since 2007, Dr Vailati has been practicing privately in Geneva, devoting herself mainly to complex rehabilitations with aesthetic and functional problems, following the fully non-invasive principles of ADDITIONAL prosthodontics.

Dr. Vailati has published many pioneering articles on topics in restorative/prosthetic dentistry and implantology. Her work of more than 15 years on the combination of classical prosthodontics and bonding techniques was consecrated with her book, ‘3STEP, Additive Prosthodotnics’, which came out in 2022 and is already a best seller, translated into several languages, to meet the great international demand for teaching in the field of functional Additive Prosthodontics.

Today, Dr Vailati is considered as one of the leading specialists in the field of Gnathology applied to tooth wear and chewing dysfunctions, and is invited to speak at the most prestigious conferences worldwide.

Finally, she founded her Academy (3STEP Academy), and its e-learning platform translated into Italian, English, Spanish and French, to continue training dentists worldwide in the 3STEP method, Additive Prosthodontics and Gnathology, always in line with the non-invasive approach in treating patients.
