IN-PERSON EVENT, hosted by the Aberdeen, Highlands and Inverness Section and Thistle Dental Academy

What to expect

The content of this unique session will be set by the delegates live on the night! After gaining some general extraction tips, participants will generate a list of the extraction complications they find most troublesome or worrying. In the remainder of the session, Callum Simpson will cover the recognition, management and prevention of each of these in turn, addressing delegates’ specific learning needs.

  • Understand how extraction technique is dictated by anatomy, physiology and mechanics
  • Troubleshoot difficult extractions intraoperatively based on these principles
  • Assess extraction difficulty based on clinical and radiographic findings
  • Build confidence in the management of common intra-operative and post-operative complications.

Meet the speaker

Callum Simpson 250X250 Callum Simpson Consultant in Oral Surgery

Callum graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2016. During his early career, he completed training rotations in oral surgery, paediatric dentistry and OMFS in both Scotland and England. He completed his specialty training in Oral Surgery in Edinburgh in 2024, before taking up his current consultant post in Aberdeen. He has a keen interest in postgraduate education and has been involved in teaching for VTs, DCTs, GDPs, DCPs, foundation doctors and medical and dental specialty trainees.
