What to expect
This session will explore the neurophysiology of sleep disorders and examine where bruxism fits within this spectrum. Luke Cascarini will discuss how bruxism is mediated, the point at which physiological activity becomes pathological, and the mechanisms underlying its development. The lecture will cover how bruxism is diagnosed and measured, its common causes in clinical scenarios, and the evidence-based treatments available for effective management.
- Explore the concept of bruxism in depth and discuss what the neurophysiologic pathways are
- Analyse the mechanisms that drive bruxism
- Identify the symptoms and signs of bruxism for accurate diagnosis and patient management
- Viewing the condition as what is in effect a sleep-related movement disorder
- Discuss how modern terms, such as “TMD” and “arthrogenic,” can be confusing or unhelpful.
