• Consider the adaptations that are required to manage obesity (drugs, safety, equipment)
• Recognise the clinical significance and pitfalls of weight reducing drugs.

• Discuss the array of medical problems common in obese patients
• Consider the risks for treating obese patients under sedation and general anaesthetic
• Assess obese patients preoperatively and highlight likely problems
• Discuss post op concerns for obese patients
• Consider prescribing issues for obese patients. Should we prescribe higher doses?

• Introduce the Medical agents currently available for the management of Obesity and the indications and guidelines for their use
• Overview of future medical therapies which are likely to be available in the coming years.

Aims
• Attendees will gain an understanding of the role of psychology assessment and intervention in weight loss surgery, referencing current guidelines and best practice
• Explore factors contributing to obesity and impacting weight management
• Discuss the psychological support needs of those living with excess weight and seeking weight loss surgery
• Having compassionate conversations with patients living with obesity about lifestyle changes drawing on motivational interviewing and making every contact count approaches.
