Meet the speaker

Bill Sharpling Associate Dean (CPD) and Director, LonDEC, Faculty of Dentistry, Oral and Craniofacial Sciences, King’s College London

Bill Sharpling is the Associate Dean for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Director of the London Dental Education Centre (LonDEC) at King’s College London, Europe’s largest and top-ranked dental institute. He oversees LonDEC, which was awarded “Best Dental Education & Training Centre, UK” in 2019 and 2020.

Qualifying in 1986, Bill gained advanced qualifications in prosthodontics and spent 16 years in the British Army (Royal Army Dental Corp). He earned an MBA with distinction in 1999. Bill is a teacher and examiner for MSc Aesthetic Dentistry and MClinDent Prosthodontics at King’s, has lectured globally, and practices privately in Surrey. He is also the External Examiner for UCLan's BSc Clinical Dental Technology programme and chairs the CPD workstream for DentALLiance, a global dental education initiative.

Bill serves on the International Federation of Denturists' education committee and has contributed to numerous publications. He has served on the editorial board of the Quintessence Journal and authored chapters in significant dental textbooks. He is involved in dental policy through the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Dentistry and holds multiple fellowships, including with the College of General Dentistry and the International Team in Implantology. In 2024, he was listed among the UK’s “Dentistry Top 50” trailblazers.
