Upskill your suturing with this hands-on at home workshop
This practical workshop is designed for clinicians with interests in all aspects of dental surgery including implant and periodontal surgery. Explore advanced suturing techniques and consider the rationale for implementation.
Periosteal stabilising sutures to secure membranes and biomaterials will be covered, as will sutures in the aesthetic zone and sutures to minimise wound tension and exposures.
The workshop is delivered through an on-demand lecture, to be viewed the week before the live online workshop, followed by a 2 hour live hands-on session. Enjoy from the comfort of your own home - all kit and equipment needed for the training will be provided.
Learning objectives
- Understand wound healing and wound tension
- Consider the different types of suturing materials and the rationale for using them
- Appreciate the merits and drawbacks of using resorbable sutures
- Be able to confidently perform simple to advance sutures in dental surgery
- Be able to implement advance suturing techniques to minimise wound exposure in implant, periodontal and oral surgery procedures.
- Discuss the indications for utilising periosteal anchoring sutures to stabilise membranes and biomaterials.

The aim of this event will be met through a live lecture and demonstration by the speaker and the opportunity for delegates to follow the same processes with the speaker on hand to answer questions.

Meet the speaker
Azim Malik Specialist Periodontist and Implant SurgeonAzim Malik graduated from the University of Birmingham, School of Dentistry, in 2011. Following his vocational training year, he worked in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery posts at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital and Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex.
Azim completed his Specialist training in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry at the Royal London Dental Hospital and is a GDC registered Specialist Periodontist.
Azim works at Norton Implants in Harley Street where he accepts periodontal and complex implant referrals. Azim’s main focus is peri-implantitis, soft and hard tissue augmentations and crown lengthening.
Azim is also the co-founder of EduDent Academy which delivers courses in crown lengthening, management of periodontal diseases, as well as soft tissue grafting.
