What to expect

To update dental professionals on the mandatory emergency drugs required in UK dental practices and enhance understanding of the pharmacological actions, indications and contraindications of these drugs. To improve confidence in recognising and managing medical emergencies safely and effectively within the dental setting.

Learning objectives

  • List the emergency drugs that must be available in UK dental practices
  • Describe the mechanism of action, indications, dosage and route of administration of each drug
  • Identify contraindications and potential interactions, such as GTN and sildenafil
  • Explain the role of oxygen therapy in medical emergencies and its safe use
  • Apply knowledge of emergency drugs to simulated clinical scenarios to support effective team based response.

Meet the speaker

Professor StJohn Crean Pro Vice-Chancellor, University of Central Lancashire

Professor St John Crean previously held a number of senior academic roles at UCLAN, including Executive Dean of the Faculty of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences, Director of Dental Research and Knowledge Transfer and Dean of the School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education.
