What to expect

Join the West Yorkshire Section on Thursday 19 June, as the speakers share their knowledge and expertise on periodontology, endodontics and implants. There will also be a Q&A session so we welcome all attendees to come prepared with their burning questions about gums, roots and metal screws!

Meet the speakers

Omid Heidarifar
Fergus Machin
Wasif Syed

Fergus Machin

Fergus completed his undergraduate training at the University of Leeds, graduating in 2014 before sitting his Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery exams in 2016.

He developed an interest in periodontology and completed a Master’s  in Clinical Periodontology, achieving a distinction. He has worked across Yorkshire accepting referrals and treating patients for a number of years. He is a Fellow of the College of General Dentistry and has a postgraduate qualification in education, and frequently lectures and runs hands-on courses.

Fergus also takes an active role in the British Society of Periodontology, recently being selected to be a member of the Early Career Group.

Omid Heidarifar

Omid graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Queen’s University
Belfast in 2017. Since then, he has worked across a range of practices in Yorkshire,
providing both NHS and private dental care. He also completed a year of Dental
Core Training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Hull Royal Infirmary. During this
time, he attained Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS), becoming a
member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow.In 2021, Omid was accepted onto the Doctorate in Dental Science (DDSc) programme in Endodontics at the University of Liverpool. Through three years of intensive clinical training, he developed advanced expertise in endodontics and successfully passed the Membership in Endodontics examination (MEndo RCSEd) with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2024. His doctoral research focuses on digital workflow and the restoration of endodontically treated teeth.
Omid is an active member of the British Endodontic Society and has presented his
research at national and international conferences. He has also published in several
leading dental journals and teaches fellow dentists on root canal treatment.

Omid currently accepts referrals across Yorkshire for a wide range of complex
endodontic cases, including primary and re-root canal treatments, dental trauma,
instrument or post removal, perforation repair, resorption and apical microsurgery.

Wasif Syed

Wasif is a highly accomplished Oral Surgeon with a wealth of experience. He pursued education at the prestigious Eastman Dental Institute in London, where he earned two master’s degrees – an MSc in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery and an MSc in Implantology. 

Dedicated solely to oral surgery, Wasif has chosen to focus his entire career on perfecting his surgical skills, making him an expert in his field. His particular strengths lie in implant dentistry, where he handles complex cases, including hard and soft tissue augmentation, sinus grafting, and immediate loading implants. His passion lies in transforming patients’ lives through dental implants, restoring the natural look and function of their smiles.
