Accessibility statement
Our commitment
The British Dental Association (BDA) is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to as many people as possible, making your visit an easy and user-friendly experience, and our content easy to find, read, and use.
This includes:
- Adding meaningful alt text to our images to support users of assistive technology
- Using plain English where possible, as well as using lists and short, descriptive headings to help users scan longer articles and find their way around the website
- Adding subtitles to our videos
- Using semantic tags instead of bold or italics for a consistent user experience
- Website compatibility with all modern web browsers, mobile, and android devices
- The ability of users to increase (or decrease) text size according to preference without the text spilling off screen
AbilityNet provides advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below. We strive to improve the website’s accessibility over time.
The following parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- Many PDF or Word downloads are not fully accessible to screen reader software
- Some of our older embedded videos may not have captions

- Some images contain words, which may make them harder to interpret for screen reader users
- Some sections or features can be difficult to navigate using just a keyboard
What we are doing to improve accessibility
We are continually reviewing and enhancing our website’s accessibility features. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard as part of this process.
