Apply for fund to support NHS net zero

The NHS has set an ambitious target to become the world's first net zero national health service.

You can help to support these environmental goals by adopting small changes, that make a big difference. Dentists who are interested in making greener choices can apply for the Healthier Futures Action Fund (HFAF).

Open for applications between 6 July and 19 August 2022 from individuals and teams within the NHS, the fund can support you to kick-start innovative initiatives. The fund has been created to offer support to ideas that will improve health and patient care, reduce inequalities, and deliver good value, while supporting a more sustainable health service.

The NHS is currently working to identify a route to net zero emissions by 2045. As a complex system, reaching net zero will be a challenging task, with dentistry playing a vital part in reaching the end goal.

To understand how reaching the goal may be possible, an NHS Net Zero Expert Panel carried out a review on almost 600 pieces of evidence as well as conducting analysis and modelling to work out what is needed to reach the 2045 target.

Considerable advances have already been made towards reducing the environmental impact of delivering healthcare. It is important we all do our part to reach net zero and understand the interventions needed to achieve that ambition.

We will keep you updated on the progress towards delivering net zero dentistry and healthcare. You can find out more about how you can do your part by registering for a FutureNHS account.
