Dental professionals encouraged to help raise awareness of anaphylaxis

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has launched a new safety campaign to raise awareness of anaphylaxis and provide advice on the use of adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs).

A toolkit of resources, including an infographic and a video, has been made available for health care professionals to support the safe and effective use of AAIs. Healthcare professionals are encouraged to:

  • Use the materials to inform patients and caregivers what to do if they suspect anaphylaxis and how to use AAIs
  • Talk to their colleagues about the safe use of AAIs and the signs of anaphylaxis using the mnemonic A, B, C for Airway, Breathing and Circulation
  • Report any suspected defective AAIs to the Yellow Card scheme, and keep defective AAIs for investigation, to help improve the safety of medicines and medical devices.

Further information on anaphylaxis and allergies can be found at anaphylaxis.org.uk and allergyuk.org.
