Dental professionals recognised in New Year’s Honours

We welcome the wider public commendation for some of those whose dedication underpins this vital profession.

Four dental professionals are recognised in the 2026 round of the King’s New Year’s Honours: Tara Renton Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), Elaine Simmons British Empire Medal (BEM), Kate Taylor-Weetman Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), and Chris Tredwin MBE.

Professor Tara Renton, emeritus professor in oral surgery at King’s College London, was awarded an OBE for her services to dentistry.

Elaine Simmons, a dental nurse tutor and internal quality assessor for the Academy of Dental Nursing, has been awarded a BEM for her services to dentistry and dental nursing.

Dr Catherine Taylor-Weetman, a consultant in dental public health for the Shropshire and Staffordshire Dental Local Professional Network, receives an MBE for services to dentistry.

Professor Christopher Tredwin is honorary consultant in restorative dentistry at Barts Health NHS Trust, and professor of restorative dentistry, dean for dentistry and director of the Institute of Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London. Chris has been awarded an MBE for his outstanding services to general dental practice.
