We are calling for the Government to implement the contract uplift in England for 2025-26 without further delay. The uplift must fully recognise the inflation in practice operating costs, so as to allow a 4% uplift in GDPs’ pay.
Following a record-breaking delay in implementing the uplift for 2024-25, the uplift is already nearly five months overdue.
The Review Body on Doctors and Dentists’ Remuneration (DDRB) report was published in late May, making a recommendation of a 4% uplift in GDPs’ take-home pay. The Government has accepted this recommendation, but is yet to confirm the contract uplift to implement it.
The DDRB makes recommendations on pay, but the elements of the contract uplift associated with practice operating costs, such as staff and material costs, is determined by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).
We submitted a paper to the DHSC in early June, setting out our evidence on the inflation in practice operating costs. The DHSC consulted us on a proposal for this year’s uplift, and we responded to this in early August. We are yet to receive a response.
