Important information when prescribing Naprosyn to patients

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued a warning over the lack of some important information in Patient Information Leaflets (PILs) in some Naprosyn tablets made by Atnahs Pharma UK Limited.

The affected PILs are missing the information shown in bold:

“Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. This includes medicines that you buy without a prescription and herbal medicines. In particular, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking: Medicine to stop your blood clotting, like aspirin/acetylsalicylic acid, warfarin, heparin or clopidogrel.”

Dentists are advised to exercise caution when dispensing this product and to check the batch number. If any of the affected batch numbers are to be dispensed, provide an updated PIL:

You are advised to remind patients to seek medical advice if taking aspirin/acetylsalicylic acid with Naprosyn Tablets or Naprosyn EC Gastro-Resistant Tablets, due to the increased risk of bleeding when these medicines are taken concurrently. Remind patients who experience adverse reactions to seek immediate medical attention.
