New award supports sustainability improvements

Public Health Wales has announced the launch of the new Greener Primary Care Wales Framework and Award Scheme to help independent primary care providers to improve environmental sustainability.

Greener Primary Care Wales Framework and Award Scheme

The framework is free to access online and has been developed in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders. The main aim is to support changes in day-to-day practice which will help Wales to reach decarbonisation targets. There are over 50 actions for practices to choose from, providing flexibility depending on how each practice works.

Climate change will be a big health challenge in the future, with potentially wide-ranging and adverse consequences. Calls to action are increasing among health professionals that keeping patients well must include helping to create a healthier environment.

Find out more on how you can help to reduce the NHS carbon footprint in a short video about the programme. You can also do your bit for sustainability by registering your practice to join the growing numbers working towards making small but important changes for the climate.
